The
Colorado Midland Railway began spiking down its standard-gauge trackage
in Colorado Springs during 1886. It was the first standard gauge
railroad to penetrate Colorado's Rocky Mountains and reached the
booming silver camp of Aspen in 1888, by way of a tunnel under Hagerman
Pass, and backtracking up the Roaring Fork Valley from Basalt. Colorado
Midland Railway is the result of over a decade of painstaking research
by author Dan Abbott of Golden, Colorado. This illustrated volume
contains 376 pages, includes 447 pictures, features 12 full-color
views, and 15 scale drawings of locomotives, rolling stock and stations.
